Teknion in collaboration with Pearson Lloyd presents Aarea Lounge. Part of a family of chairs that unites the concept of circularity and the simple reality of human needs, Aarea is where tailoring meets engineering. Aarea is familiar and welcoming, intuitive and ergonomic in use, and made with minimal components and materials, which speaks to the ingenuity and intelligence of the chair’s design. Aarea Lounge is available in both a casual lounge and worklounge style, providing solutions for the modern workplace.
Innovated through second-life material, Aarea’s mélange knit back is fabricated from retrieved marine plastic to minimize virgin materials and waste. The knit back is flexible and readily conforms to the shape of the body, creating seamless support through the tensions inherent in the knit. The knit back is made to size, creating no additional cut-off waste. A cushioned seat and angled armrests further enhance comfort and well-being for all users throughout a workday.
“Aarea Lounge represents our commitment to sustainable innovation and human-centered design,” says Julia La, Product Manager at Teknion. “By combining reclaimed materials with advanced ergonomics, we’ve thoughtfully collaborated with Pearson Lloyd to create a chair that responds to the needs of modern workplaces while also reducing environmental impact. This is a product that truly embodies the future of office seating—efficient, adaptable, and thoughtful in every detail.”
“Our goal with the Aarea lounge chairs was to design something that feels immediately familiar yet is progressive in its approach to materiality and function,” says Luke Pearson, Co-Founder and Director of Pearson Lloyd. “By reducing the complexity of the chair, we were able to focus on comfort and sustainability. The knit back, made from reclaimed marine plastic, seamlessly supports the user, while the chair’s minimal form allows it to integrate effortlessly into any environment.”
In the open-plan environment, lounge furniture is now expected to support performance work as well. The casual lounge combines modern aesthetics with practical functionality. It offers a supportive and cushioned seating experience and height adjustability for personalized comfort. The work lounge offers the high performance of a task chair without the bulky, visibly mechanical components. Its slimmer, lighter design promotes user mobility. Additionally, the synchro-tilt mechanism allows for the seat back and cushion to recline at different rates, keeping the user’s feet on the floor. For users who would rather kick their feet up, the work lounge comes with an ottoman. These features support several posture angles to accommodate any work mode, from fixed to casual.
